Professor Ali Emadi will be presenting on the current status and future trends in the transportation industry:
- The paradigm shift from “Old Mobility” to “New Mobility”: The presentation begins with the history of the automotive industry and explains the need for a paradigm shift towards sustainable transportation solutions. Parallels with other industries such as the telecommunications industry are highlighted and it is explained how providing greater levels of empowerment for consumers is a powerful driving force for the next generation of electrified and autonomous vehicles. This empowerment is part of a new paradigm in energy integrated with renewable energy sources, distributed generation systems, and smart grid.
- E-Mobility: The presentation is then focused on the transportation electrification and how the paradigm shift began with more electric vehicles, established by hybrid electric vehicles, is gaining momentum by plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Electric Vehicle Powertrain Systems and Components: The motivation for the research, development, and commercialization of electrified and autonomous vehicles will be explained and role of electric motors, power electronics, and energy storage systems will be highlighted. Powertrain configurations and powertrain components will also be presented. Throughout the presentation, related component-level as well as system-level challenges are explained and possible solutions are recommended.
- MARC Facility Tour: The presentation will also introduce the attendees to the facilities and programs of the McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC).

June 27 2019: SAE Student’s Night
Ladies and Gentlemen, SAE Teams,
We are now accepting registration for 2019 Student’s Night! Student’s Night is a 1 evening event dedicated to awarding you for a hard year’s work and connecting you with industry managers who are looking for graduates with your skills.
This year’s competition will be hosted at McMaster University on Thursday, June 27th (5pm-9pm). Each team will deliver a 10 minute design presentation in order to compete for the thousands of dollars in prizes that have been donated by the local Central Ontario SAE section. Please bring your vehicles, a display of your parts, and/or designs to show off your work. Full teams are welcome, and dinner will be provided.
A scoring rubric for the presentations is attached for your reference. The judges at Students’ Night are local industry experts in the automotive, aerospace, and motorsports sectors. Many of them competed in SAE as students, so they are looking forward to interacting with you and getting into the details of your innovations from this past year.
To RSVP, simply reply by email firstname.lastname@example.org by June 7th to confirm your contact information and attendance. We will need a list of student names and SAE numbers for the team members you are bringing. If you’re no longer with an SAE team, please advise me of the updated contact info.
We look forward to seeing you on the 27th!
May 30 – June 2, 2019: Formula SAE North Motorsport Competition – Call for Volunteers
Barrie Molson Centre, Ontario, Canada
We provide the Experience,You supply the Knowledge
Formula SAE is globally the most established educational motorsport competition organized by SAE International. Backed by industry and academia, the competition aims to provide real world experience to young engineers bridging the gap as they enter the workforce. Universities from across the globe accept the challenge to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small formula-style race cars. The cars are built with a team effort over a period of eight to twelve months before reaching competitions where students are judged on knowledge and vehicle judged on performance.
Ways to get involved:
• Daily Operations staff
• Judging student projects
• Track operations
